About our bagels

Boiled, not just baked.

A bagel is only three ingredients — flour, water, yeast — but the method decides everything. We ferment the dough slowly, overnight in the cold, to develop that deep, almost cracker-like aroma. In the morning the rings spend 30 seconds in boiling water with honey — that's what creates the shiny skin that pushes back against your teeth.

Then into the oven. All week long our bagels come out fresh roughly every 90 minutes. So you get them warm — not off a shelf, not delivered overnight, but from today's batch.

What we don't use

  • No palm oil and no margarine — only butter and sunflower oil.
  • No bread improvers or E-preservatives — the overnight dough builds its own flavor.
  • No sweetened cream cheese — we use Philadelphia and a house version with fresh herbs, never sugar syrup.

Frequently asked questions

The things people ask us most.

Where in Jūrmala can you buy real bagels?

That's exactly what we do. The Bagel&Co café in Bulduri, at Meža prospekts 36 k-1, is the only place in Jūrmala where a bagel is boiled and baked on-site using the traditional New York method. We don't buy in frozen blanks — the dough rests with us overnight, and a fresh batch comes out of the oven roughly every 90 minutes.

Are the bagels real — boiled before baking?

Yes. That's the only bagel that earns the name. The dough ring spends a few seconds in boiling water with a touch of honey — that keeps a starch layer on the surface, which in the oven turns into that shiny, lightly chewy crust. Without that step, it's just a round bread roll.

What are the Bulduri café's weekend hours?

We're open daily from 09:00 to 19:00, including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Weekend mornings (10:00–12:00) tend to get busy — come early or order ahead from the main menu.

Do you have vegetarian and vegan options?

Vegetarian: the mozzarella bagel, the salted caramel and pear bagel, Red Velvet muffin, Pastel de Nata, butter pretzel and the mozzarella burger.

Vegan: warm bread (without added butter), still water and natural juices. We can adapt most bagels without cream cheese — just say so at the counter or in the order note.

Do you take large orders for offices or events?

Yes. Bagel boxes for 10, 20 and 50 people are one of our specialties — office breakfasts, parties, weddings and film crews. We recommend ordering at least 24 hours in advance. Call +371 20 207 878 or write to orders@bagelsco.lv.

Do you have gluten-free bagels?

Not currently — building a proper New York bagel without wheat gluten is hard, and we don't want to offer a version we wouldn't be happy with ourselves. Gluten-light options from the bakery shelf include Pastel de Nata (note: still contains wheat, so not strictly gluten-free — check the allergen list before ordering) and juices/water.
